St. Elizabeth Catholic Church is a Roman Catholic parish located at 5 Ransford Avenue in Kingston, Jamaica. Commonly known as “Saint E’z,” it serves as both a place of worship and a community hub for education and outreach in an urban neighborhood. Operated under the Archdiocese of Kingston, it continues the mission of the Passionists of St. Paul of the Cross in Jamaica.
Established in the 1950s, St. Elizabeth was one of the first missions entrusted to the Passionist community after their arrival in Jamaica. The parish has long provided spiritual guidance and social stability in its surrounding area, which has struggled with crime and poverty. Its programs emphasize compassion, education, and youth support, embodying the motto “A gift is not a gift until given.”
The church operates several ministries that focus on worship, charity, and local engagement. Parish activities include dynamic Sunday liturgies and neighborhood outreach. Under the leadership of Rev. Fr. Richard Award, C.P., and Deacon Desmond Gordon, the parish extends practical aid to those in need and partners with other local organizations to improve community safety.
Adjacent to the church is the Saint E’z Basic School, founded in 1982 by a group of dedicated nuns. The school educates children aged 3 to 6, offering early childhood learning with Christian values, a library, a computer lab, and daily meals. It participates in Jamaica’s annual cultural festivals and emphasizes holistic development through academics, faith, and arts.
Named in honor of St. Elizabeth of Hungary—patroness of charity—the parish reflects her legacy of service to the poor. Through worship, education, and outreach, St. Elizabeth Catholic Church continues to be a cornerstone of spiritual and social life in Kingston’s inner city.
