The Bethel United Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic is a major Apostolic Pentecostal that serves as the national center of one of Jamaica’s most prominent Oneness Apostolic movements, known for its emphasis on the baptism in Jesus’ name and Spirit-filled worship.
The Jamaican organization is a branch of the Bethel United Church of Jesus Christ International, originally founded in England in the 1950s by Bishop Sydney Alexander Dunn to minister to Caribbean migrants. Recognizing the need for continuity of faith among returning Jamaicans, Dunn initiated the establishment of the Kingston headquarters in the 1960s. The church officially opened its Kingston base in December 1968, marking a milestone in the growth of Apostolic Christianity in the island.
Bethel United Church of Jesus Christ Apostolic is committed to spreading the message of salvation through Jesus Christ, fostering unity, and building spiritual maturity among believers. Its ministries include evangelism, teaching, and pastoral care, aligning with the biblical offices of apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher. The church regularly hosts national and international gatherings, including its Annual National Convocation, which attracts congregants from across Jamaica and abroad.
Today, the organization oversees approximately 19 assemblies nationwide with an estimated membership of around 2,000 people. It continues to serve as a cornerstone of Apostolic faith and community life in Jamaica, maintaining strong ties to its global counterparts.
