The Islamic Council of Jamaica (ICOJ) is the central administrative and religious body for the Muslim community in Jamaica. Based in Kingston, it serves as both a mosque and an outreach center, promoting Islamic education, charity, and interfaith understanding. The council plays a key role in coordinating Islamic institutions across the island.

Founded to unify and represent Jamaica’s Muslim population, the ICOJ operates from its headquarters at 24 South Camp Road, Kingston. The complex includes a mosque (Central Masjid), offices, a basic school, and a small clinic providing free medical services to the community. Its motto, “Propagating the true message of Islam,” reflects its emphasis on education and social welfare.

The organization runs community programs including food distribution to the sick and shut-in, and weekly free medical consultations. These initiatives embody its commitment to compassion and service, extending support to both Muslims and non-Muslims in need.

ICOJ promotes awareness of Islam through lectures, open discussions, and school visits. It welcomes visitors for educational tours, particularly on Fridays when the mosque is busiest. Its leaders, such as Sheikh Musa Tijani, have been active in clarifying misconceptions about Islam and emphasizing peace and coexistence.

As the umbrella organization for approximately twelve mosques across Jamaica, the ICOJ provides guidance on religious practice and community organization. It also participates in government and interfaith programs, reinforcing Islam’s place in the nation’s multicultural landscape.
